The BEng runs for 3 years and partially meets CEng requirements. The MEng runs for 4 years and covers the full requirements for senior engineer registration. How is the curriculum organized?

The program is built in two progressive stages.

Stage 1, engineering foundations (early years): Early modules cover the base every motorsport engineer needs before working with track data:

Stage 2, motorsport specialization (later years): After the foundation is set, the curriculum moves into industry-specific modules:

MSc Motorsport Engineering is a one-year postgraduate program for engineers who already hold a degree and want specialization in competition vehicle performance. It is also accredited by IMechE and IET for CEng progression purposes.

The choice between BEng and MEng depends mainly on long-term career goals. For people aiming at senior technical roles in F1 teams, the MEng usually opens doors more consistently.

What are the entry requirements?

For the BEng:

  • A-levels: BBC (112 UCAS points), including grade B in Mathematics and B in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or Computer Science
  • IB Diploma: 31 points, with grade 5 in Mathematics HL and in a second science HL subject
  • English: IELTS 6.0 overall, with 6.0 in reading and writing and 5.5 in listening and speaking

For the MEng:

  • A-levels: BBB (120 UCAS points), same subject requirements
  • IB Diploma: 32 points, same HL profile

Students who do not yet meet the full profile for direct BEng entry can start through the Engineering Foundation Year, a one-year route with more accessible entry requirements. Frequently asked questions about motorsport engineering at Oxford Brookes

Is the course on campus or online?

BEng and MEng Motorsport Engineering are taught on the Headington Hill campus in Oxford. Access to specialist labs, such as the wind tunnel, VR cave, and autodynamics workshop, is part of the curriculum and cannot be replaced by a fully remote format.

Is IELTS the only accepted English test?

Can I enter the MEng without doing the BEng at Oxford Brookes?

Yes. The MEng is a 4-year integrated undergraduate degree, not a postgraduate course. Students apply directly to the MEng with entry requirements equivalent to A-levels BBB or IB 32 points.
